Why?

Oprah just recently aired her 2007 Holiday Favorite Things episode.  Being on a favorite things episode is one of my all time dreams!  It’s up there with winning the lottery.  One of her faves was Rachel Pally’s Swing Turtle Neck and Sailor Pants.  I’m sure they are very comfortable, but c’mon… I would not be caught dead in that.  They look like pajamas with a touch of 70’s dinner party wear. Oprah inspires many women all over the world.  If she told people to eat a cherry everyday on a plastic spoon… they’d do it!  Why?  Because, Oprah said so.  And, as much as I love this woman, her love for these over sized clothes will lead to a wide spread of woman looking like those yip-yip-yip aliens from Sesame Street

Trend Alert: The Sequined Dress

A must have for this winter is the sequined dress.  At this point I’m not rushing to the stores to purchase this particular look.  If you’ve been to the mall lately you’ll notice that almost every section has a sequined –something- There’s nothing worse than showing up at a Christmas party to find out another person is wearing your same exact dress!!! No thanks! Regardless, they are all the rage right now.  I suggest that because the dress is so “look-at-me” you keep your accessories low key.  Avoid metallic or other sequined things.  Make your dress the focal point.

Trend Alert: Cropped Leather Jacket

A funky way to accessorize a long tee this fall would be with a cropped jacket.  A popular style since spring ’07 was the cropped leather jacket.  Cameron Diaz was first spotted wearing a Mike and Chris creation.  I love the cropped jacket with a hood.  With winter coming soon, most crops are veering toward a tee or wool fabric which works great over long sweaters or long sleeved dresses.

The Posh Bob

The new fall do is the Asymmetrical Bob.  Popularized by Victoria Beckham and Rihanna, this funky style has a glam yet rock & roll feel.  If your hair is straight and thin, then this trend would be perfect on you.  But if your hair is like mine (Ronald McDonald-ish?!?!) then don’t even bother.  Paris Hilton is the latest star to jump on the flapper-do bandwagon, like her “natural” looking extensions weren’t stylish enough.

Ouch! Would you wear these?

Oh the things we do for fashion. Antonio Berardi Created this extreme pump? Shoe? Something?  These just hit the runway and while it may turn heads, I highly doubt they’ll catch on.  You’re basically tippy-toeing as you walk!

Glove Love

Long leather gloves are the best way to accessorize a cropped coat.  Not only are long gloves functional, they also add that touch of class to every outfit.  While black is the safe route for a color combo, try to go outside your comfort zone and opt for a leopard print or a bold, bright color like red or yellow.  I think the best part of having long gloves is removing them.  I feel as though I am an actress in a 1950’s gangster film.

From Sex to Barbie

Our beloved and well respected stylist, Patricia Field, has been asked to design a line for the famous blonde bombshell, Barbie. We best know Patricia Field as the award winning stylist from Sex & the City.  She admitted that she herself was not a collector of Barbie Dolls but once asked to create a line for the ageless Barbie, she could not resist.  Richard Dickinson of Mattel confessed that he had long admired the work of Patricia and was anticipating the opportunity to work with the fashion icon.  The makers of Barbie have a reputation of asking top Fashion Designers to create a Barbie using their own unique style. As children, I have no doubt that these now successful designers once created master pieces for their own doll.

Boots or Food?

I need them! I want them!  I’m desperate!  I would just die if I saw a pair of these Frye Annie Double Zip Glazed Vintage Boot– under my Christmas tree this year.  I have so many outfits that would be friends with these boots!  They’re about $400 USD.  I don’t have that kind of money.  Maybe I’ll print out a picture of them and tape it to the fridge with a big red circle drawn around them.  While my husband suffers from selective hearing, he also suffers from selective vision as well.  So, the fridge thing may not slide well.  Are these boots worth going in debt for?  I would be collecting Aeroplan miles.  But, I have to pay for food.  Such a dilemma.

Q&A: Wedding Shoe?

Question: Dear Chichi, I’m getting married this winter and I’ve yet to find a pair of shoes to go with my wedding dress.  My dress in strapless, A-line, and goes down to the floor. Any suggestions on what color or type of show I should get? Thanks, Shoeless.Answer: Hi Shoeless, If your dress is not stark white I suggest you try a soft metallic strappy sandal or Stiletto pump. Depending on your jewelry, look at colors from, gold, silver or pearl.  And, with sparkly styles so in right now; maybe try something with a bit of bling! Good luck in your hunt.

love-love-love T-bags

T-Bags Founded in 2000 by friends Shadi Askari and Su-lyn Tay, T-Bags is a contemporary fashion line that says, “Look at me!”  What I love about their clothing are the bold prints and wonderful patterns.  I’m a big fan of “loud” styles.  I usually buy outfits with weird-awkwardish prints.  The first time I heard about this brand name was on an episode of Newlyweds (Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachy).  Jessica was trying to explain ~”Tea Bagging”~ to her sweet mother.  After the episode, I looked up the company (thank you goggle) and I soon became a big fan of this super sexy, body flattering line.
